In terms of the provisions contained in Rule 4(2)(b) of the IPS Recruitment Rules, 1954 read with Regulation 5 (1) of IPS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulation, 1955, the Central Government in consultation with the State Government determines the vacancies for each year as on the first day of January of the year for the members of the State Police Service.
